Dimmeys is a two-storey brick building of “Federation Free Classical” style with a red brick extension completed in 1988. The facade of the east section built between 1907 and C.1915 has 12 “American Romanesque” arches on the first floor. These arches were replicated on the 1988 extension. A prominent clock tower employing classical motifs surmounted by an internally lit ruby glass sphere was added during the expansion of the building in 1910. The ruby glass was replaced by copper cladding in 1939. On east elevation, a mural painted by Hayden Dewar in 2004 to commemorate Dimmey’s 150th anniversary depicting the chronology of the store in the context of Victoria’s history
