DONAGHY'S ROPEWALK, 2015
Geelong West, Victoria

Donaghy’s Ropeworks was a huge industrial site in West Geelong. Rope was made at the factory from 1874 until 1999. The factory consisted of a 500 metre 'Rope Walk' housed within a long narrow corrugated iron shed.

The Former Donaghy's Rope Walk Building (Part) and Rope Making Machinery is of historical significance to the State of Victoria.

The Former Donaghy's Rope Walk Building (Part) and Rope Making Machinery is historically significant as a surviving remnant of one of Victoria's largest ropeworks which opened in 1874. The building, machinery and documentary evidence demonstrates the process of making ('laying') large ropes by the walk method. The Rope Walk Building (Part) contains equipment from at least three periods, possibly including the 1870s original machinery, early twentieth century improvements and 1950s imported components with local adaptations.
